Kevyen musiikin esikuva The Boswell Sisters

 

The Boswell Sisters oli yhdysvaltalainen laulutrio, jota pidetään ensimmäisenä jazz- ja kevyttä musiikkia esittäneenä naistriona. Trion jäsenet olivat sisarukset Martha, Connee ja Vet.

Yhtye oli suosionsa huipulla vuosina 1930–luvulla, jolloin he tekivät myös tärkeimmät levytyksensä. Trio tuli tunnetuksi tiukoista harmonioistaan, scat-laulutyylistään, instrumentti-imitoinneista ja yllättävistä tempovaihteluista. He leikittelivät alkuperäismelodioitten harmonioilla muutellen niitä täysin uusiin muotoihin ja heidän tyylinsä tuli tunnetuksi kuumana jazzina ja swinginä, jota ovat ihastelleet useat jazz-muusikot. Trio teki myös yhteistyötä useiden aikansa toisten huippunimien, kuten Bing Crosbyn ja Benny Goodmanin  kanssa.

Ella Fitzgerald viittasi Connee Boswelliin ainoana esikuvanaan. The Andrews Sisters sai myös paljon vaikutteita Boswellin sisaruksilta. Harmony Sisters tunnusti jäljitelleensä Boswell Sistersia ja kopioineensa heidän laulujaan savikiekoilta. Nykyisin Boswell Sistersia pidetään eräänä merkittävimmistä jazz-lauluyhtyeistä kautta aikojen.
